I am not having any luck either with my live net-install cd or with my newly installed base system, the network fails in both of them. I do have my network card module loaded, via_rhine . Other then running the command
/etc/init.d/networking start I have no idea what to do. When I try to ping any computer, including ones one my home network, it says "network unreachable"
Login as root, and run "ifconfig" - tell us what that says - does it show your network card in that? It should be labelled something like "eth0" - "lo" is not a real network card. Does it have an IP? If it does, it'll say so in the output of that command.
If you do have an eth0, what happens if you type "ifdown eth0" then "ifup eth0"? Does it seem to get an IP, or give you any error messages?
If your loading your module, and as suggested above, you check ifconfig and do see eth0 listed, it would sound like a IP Addressing issue. Are you using DHCP from a router or something similar to obtain IP Addresses or are you going the static route?
