Network Manager Applet

I noticed using a GUI on Debian for the 1st time in some time, it's not working. I have full Internet in Gnome but the Network Manager Applet isn't working for whatever reason. It just say's 'no network connection' when in fact I do have a network connection. I installed Debian just as I did on another machine and it too has the same problem.

Is there a way to resolve this?

Guess I'm missing something because I don't see how that Wiki page relates to the application not working in Wheezy. Are you talking about the following:

Do you have entries for eth0 in your /etc/network/interfaces?
If so, the system sets its network stuff grom there, way before nm starts.

I had a similar problem in Ubuntu 8.04 with an internal hardware modem. It was connected through pppconfig, connected automatically on bootup, worked great.

While I am sure you could, perhaps, get this recognized by NM, why bother and why worry about it. NM is just one of many gui front ends to something that is really doing the job.

The backend in your case is not associated with NM. I would ignore it.

I remove network-manager. Go static. That is what I do.
I know that does not solve your problem but it will get you connected.
You can also use Wicd.
