My Problem:
I have a Debian 3.1r0 With Kernel 2.6.14.4 working now with this configuration...
ASUS P5LD2 (ICH7R)
Bios SATA setting is to compatibility mode.
HDA is the DVD-Rom drive
HDC is the SATA Hardrive (HDC1 as /; HDC2 as /home; HDC3 as /squid_cache; HDC4 as SWAP)
My goal:
Change the necessary configuration files (lilo.conf, fstab and any other that I hope you tell me) to get the system working like this:
ASUS P5LD2 (ICH7R)
BIOS SATA setting set to Enhaced mode.
sda should be the SATA Harddrive (sda1, sda2, etc...)
HDA should remain as the DVD-Rom Drive since it is connected to a PATA interface.
Any thoughts?
Best regards to everyone.

1. Download and burn Knoppix CD
2. Reboot and enter BIOS change to Enhanced make sure CD is higher boot priority than HD.
3. Boot Knoppix CD using
knoppix 2 typed in at the boot: prompt.
4. Once booted to the command prompt
dmesg | grep sda to make sure HD detected properly.
5. Use
mount /dev/sda1 /mnt/sda1.
6. Edit the /etc/fstab and /etc/lilo.conf changing all instances of hda to sda.
7. Use
chroot /mnt/sda1/ /sbin/lilo -v to write the changed lilo configuration.
8. Reboot (shutdown -r now) and if necessary enable booting from SATA in BIOS.
An extra step you want to do when the partition is mounted is to use lsmod to see which module is being using for the serial ata then
grep -i name_of_sata_module /mnt/sda1/boot/config-2.6.14-?? to check if the module is present in your kernel and hopefully it has been included in the initrd otherwise you will get an unable to mount root file system error when booting from the sata.
