SATA detected, but PATA not

I've just installed Ubuntu 5.10 on a system with a VIA 8237 SATA controller.
The base system is installed on the first disk which is a SATA, I'm now having trouble getting the seond disk (PATA) to detect.

Any help greatly appreciated.

Thanks.
