since I passed from 5 Mbps to 20 Mbps, I cannot say it is faster. I'd even say it's slower. Is it smth wrong with my Debian config or should I talk to my provider ?
I download several huge files at the same time. The total speed goes up to 17-18 Mbps. But when opening any web page, it's really slow, it takes several seconds to open a simple page.
I wonder if it has smth to do with the overall machine speed. Sometimes it takes some time to perform a simple action like to compile a LaTeX file or to open a pdf file in xpdf.
I've experienced something similar to that, where web pages open very slow. In my case, when I used the actual DNS server ip's instead of the gateway IP things were much faster. I was using Fedora Core 5 and Firefox.
