Installing MySQL 5.0 on Debian Linux

good day everybody...

I have already installed Debian Linux on my machine from a CD installers that I have borrowed from a friend. Included on those CD installers is the MySQL Server 4.1. I installed MySQL 4.1 on my PC running Debian Linux... and enjoyed using it...

I am also using MySQL 5 beta release for almost a year now but under Windows OS. With the release of the production version of MySQL 5.0 loaded with so many nice features, I decided to install it on my machine running on Debian Linux. But I cannot find a MySQL 5.0 package created specifically for Debian.

My question is:

Can I just download MySQL 5.0 RPM package and install it my Debian machine? Or is there any place on the WEB where I can download a MySQL 5.0 package for Debian?

Thank you in advance for assistance...

Debian doesn't use RPMs it uses DEBs. If you've got a net connection and your Apt sources are configured correctly then you should be able to

apt-cache search mysql
apt-get install "insert mysql5 package name here if it exisits"

MySQL 5 is available from testing + unstable. You might need to adjust your sources.list to get it, and that will probably pull down a host of additional packages as dependencies will differ from stable.

Uncomment the testing or unstable entry in /etc/apt/sources.list. If it is not there, there should be suitable locations listed in the APT HowTo. After adding things to sources.list, you should apt-get update to cache what is out there. Then search.
