Installing ATI Drivers in MEPIS

i dont know if i should have asked this in the newbie section, but anyway...

i cant get my 9600xt to work in linux. ive seen a bunch of different guides and each one was different. and i dont know which to use. has anyone gotten ATI drivers on their 9600xt working in debian, specificcally MEPIS? if so, can you post linkage to the guide you used and let me add you to my MSN just in case something comes up in the midle of the install and i need help before i mess something up. many many thanks.

Try the mepis forum, they are very helpful, email the developer/owner, he's a stand-up guy. He'll get back to you in a jiffy.

looks like this project aims to create Debian packages of the ATI proprietary driver.

i'm not one to say rtfm (read the ------- manual), but that site has a very direct proceedure for installation. please, take a sunday afternoon, print out the page, and follow thru the steps carefully.

also, i dont have a 2.6.5-x config file in my /boot/ folder. mine is only called 2.6.5. i did cp /boot/config-2.6.5 .config for the first line, but what do i put in where it says flavour in the make line?

Code:
cp /boot/config-2.x.y-flavour .config
make-kpkg --append-to-version "-flavour" --revision 2.x.y-z --config old configure
