Install software with kanotix live cd

I checked other threads none relate specifically to my question, I have installed software with Mepis and PClinux live cd. Is this not possible with Kanotix because I tried and Kpackage is saying could not access dpkg area read only file system. I could understand why with it running in RAM and all if it wasn't for the fact that I have done it with a live cd before. Is there a way around this without having to do what I seen in somewhat similar post about using persistent home directory or using boot option?

Kanotix uses unionfs to install debs to the live disc. You can either use the cheatcode unionfs on boot or enable it after booting w/
Code:
fix-unionfs
The Kanotix forums could also have provided this answer for you.
