install Samsung ML-2010 laser printer


I am trying to
install samsung ML-2010 printer
on Debian Linux 2.4.27-2-386.

Manual said, it will start up automatically once I insert the cd.
However, there is no response.
I look at /cdrom.
and run following command as root(su)

>cd /media/cdrom
>ls -als

Anybody can tell me correct way to run the installation?

Instead of ./setup.sh try sh setup.sh. If Debian doesn't allow you to run GUI programs as root, you also need to run the following command:

ln -fs /home/user_name/.Xauthority /root/.Xauthority
(Where you, of course, replace the "user_name" part with your user name.)

Removing the .Xauthority link from the /root directory will revert Debian back to its original permissions that only allow the user who initially started X to run GUI applications. In general, it's safer to install a helper program like gksu or kdesu and use that to temporarily run GUI apps with root privileges.

If all else fails you can install the .ppd file manually.. (Postscript Printer Definition file )

the .ppd file is what tells the system the capabilities of the printer.. paper sizes, paper trays, dpi, margins, non-printable areas, additional features of the printer, etc..
