How to install nVIDIA using DEB packages
Guys
I am absolutely new to Debian. I installed SARGE. I have a K7 processor and run the stock 2.6.8-K7 kernel.
From Rolland's site, I downloaded the foll DEBs:
nvidia-kernel-2.6-k7_1.0.7174+1_all.deb
nvidia-kernel-2.6-k7_1.0.7676+1.sarge.0_all.deb
nvidia-kernel-2.6.8-2-k7_1.0.7174+1_i386.deb
nvidia-kernel-2.6.8-2-k7_1.0.7676+1.sarge.0_i386.deb
nvidia-glx-dev_1.0.7676-2.sarge.0_i386.deb
nvidia-glx_1.0.7676-2.sarge.0_i386.deb
nvidia-kernel-source_1.0.7676-2.sarge.0_i386.deb
Now, is it possible to install nVidia drivers without having to use apt? Can I just do:
$ dpkg -i <name>.deb
I know nothing about apt, have no internet connection. APTITUDE has served me well. I have 8 of the 14 ISOs.
Thanks guys,
P.S: don't you guys agree RPM is much simpler and cooler? You rpm -ivh the RPMs and get work done. PERIOD.
