How to enable Gnome logon facebook browser and face images?

When I go System>Administration>Login Window>Local>Style and choose
Quote:
Themed with face browser
I get a face browser only if the theme itself includes it. And even when I choose a theme with a face browser, I still can't get a face image even though I go System>Administration>Login Window>Users, check "Default face" and choose a face image from the "global face dir". I've Google'd and Google'd and can't find a solution. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks!

Well, the System>Administration>Login Window>Local>Style
probably overrides the face image choice, so.
And,
If a user has no defined face imaged, GDM will use the "stock_person" icon defined in the current GTK+ theme. If not such image is defined, the iage specified by DefaultFace will be used. The image mst bin in an gdk-pixbuf supported format and the file must be readable to the GDM user.

So! The theme must be usuable by the GDM user.

What are you trying to do? Put your own custom pic in as the face? or a custom theme with custom face?

cheftec, thank you.

Can you tell me which formats these are, and if they can be produced with the GIMP?

Yes, but at this point I'd be happy to get one of the images in "global face dir" to work. Thank you for your time and assistance!

well, .png is supported. so if you put the default face in your /home/username directory, it should load without much issue. try .png first. You'll set the themed with face browser, then add your own default image. Make sure its checked to use. Really, just download a .png file to test it out- who cares about the /global/ stuff. if you'd care to look, it's under /usr/share/faces. (locate faces). I don't think there is a size restraint, it'll probably adjust it. If it doesn't work though, try a smaller png file, like 100x60 or some such.

*solved* How to enable Gnome logon face browser...

Changed the names of the default "stock_person" icons defined in GTK+:

Code:
# mv /usr/share/icons/gnome/scalable/stock/generic/stock_person.svg /usr/share/icons/gnome/scalable/stock/generic/stock_person_backup.svg
Code:
# mv /usr/share/icons/gnome/scalable/stock/generic/stock_person.svg /usr/share/icons/gnome/scalable/stock/generic/stock_person_backup.svg
Code:
# mv /usr/share/icons/gnome/32x32/stock/generic/stock_person.png /usr/share/icons/gnome/32x32/stock/generic/stock_person_backup.png
Code:
# mv /usr/share/icons/gnome/24x24/stock/generic/stock_person.png /usr/share/icons/gnome/24x24/stock/generic/stock_person_backup.png
Code:
# mv /usr/share/icons/gnome/16x16/stock/generic/stock_person.png /usr/share/icons/gnome/16x16/stock/generic/stock_person_backup.png
Then changed the desired icon in the default icon directory from jpg to png (gdk-pixbuf supported format):
Code:
# mv /usr/share/pixmaps/faces/coffee.jpg /usr/share/pixmaps/faces/coffee.png
Then went System>Administration>Login Window>Local>Style and selected
Quote:
Themed with face browser
Then went System>Administration>Login Window>Local>Theme and chose a theme with a face browser. You also can go System>Administration>Login Window>Local>Style and select
Quote:
Plain with face browser
. Either way, you get a login screen with a face browser and the desired face icon.
