How do I get rid of AppleTalk?

I have no idea why it's installed, I don't remember installing it.

I have a new debian 3.1 etch install. During startup I get a message like:

Starting AppleTalk services (this will take awhile): NET: Registered protocol family 5

It really does "take a while" and my boot-up is slow enough. How do I get rid of this? Or least not start this during boot-up.

A quick search here suggests you need to apt-get remove --purge netatalk to get rid of it.

Code:
apt-cache search apple talk daemon
netatalk - AppleTalk user binaries

apt-cache show netatalk
Package: netatalk
Priority: extra
Section: net

Can I be sure that removing netatalk will not affect anything else.

I'm going to say it won't. If it does, it will most likely tell you this before it uninstalls. And even if something is affected afterwards, you can always re-install very easily.

Well, when I do a Debian install the first thing I do is removing netatalk or making sure it doesn't get installed in the first place! Don't worry, it's pretty much a selfcontained package you can remove without braking dependencies. I know, did it several times
Code:
apt-get remove netatalk
will do the trick

I don't have it installed and I have no problems.

I actually don't use tasksel. It installs too much. It is nice for the new user but that's about it.

I just uncheck everything in the install phase, get left at my command prompt and apt-get everything I need.

It's not a space issue, I just like choosing what's installed (or not installed) on my system.
