gnome -> computer problem

Hi, I have a problem with my partitions that are shown in the gome menu under "computer" (I think it is so called in english).
My newest (partly 2.14) and also my older (2.12/2.10) gnome versions didn't show me my partitions I enterend in /etc/fstab.
Now the partly 2.14 does show me the _all_ of my partitions even the ones that are not mentioned in fstab.
If I click on one, it says "device busy" or "already mounted" if I browse to /mnt/... yes it is mounted according to fstab. But still I can't use the places->computermenu, and the partitions aren't shown on the desktop.
To me it looks like there is a deb missing, but I can't find out which one.

Any suggestions are welcome, sorry for my english, i'm still training.
THanks for reading.
Greetings D

My system: debian unstable, 2.6.14-homemade-kernel, ich6-laptop, gnome 2.12/2.14
(Need more system informations, just ask me)

Your system probably uses these new fancy hal&udev stuffs that automatically/magically detect and mount partitions even if they don't exsist in fstab (I've faced this situation too; not having some partition in fstab and yet getting it visible in Gnome). Probably they're being mounted with rights that do not let you use the device..but that's just a guess. You could try adding stuff to fstab with correct rights and see if that helps, or check out udev configurations and see if it helps..

They say udev is better than the old devfs, but I've used both and I really can't say that. Udev has it's advantages, but also it's disadvantages compared to the old/obsolete devfs, and this new magical automounting thing is one of them. It just doesn't seem to work all right at all times..sometimes yes, like now at this computer, but sometimes not, as in my older pc. But you ought to be able to configure your system so you get what you want..try the udev config, and also that Gnome's config tool that deals with portable medias..I don't know what that has to do with it, but at least in 2.12 it seemed to do odd stuff when marking and unmarking the boxes in the tool (some didn't seem to work at all, others seemed to cause actions they didn't mention?)
