problem fixed!
this was on packages.debian.org:
libexif9 [i386]
Package not available
this package, on wich gimp seems to depend, is only available in debian 'testing' sarge...
so I got the libexif9.deb from the testing distribution and installed it with dpkg -i
after that installed the gimp with out a problem!
should I report this problem or is it normal with the testing distro that such things happen? I don't want to bother the debian guys if it isn't necessary.
