Fatal error - appears to be responsible for loss of kbd and mouse

After re-booting debian/squeeze, an error about [modprobe, unexpected error, EOF, try re-running depmod] was received

(sorry - I don't have the exact message available)

Is it still possible to tell what got screwed up and how I might fix it?

any advice appreciated

Gary

There are two things you can do to get information on the problem.
1) open a terminal and run "dmesg | grep modprobe".
2) open a terminal and run "cat /var/log/messages | grep modprobe".

Both commands issued without quotes. The grep command map be enhanced with the -A and -B options (as in -A 3 -B 3) to show the three lines before and after the line in /var/log/messages which contains the word modprobe.

Thank you for the reply; And I apologize for the delay in acknowledging your reply.

It looks like my problem is really a mother board problem -- all 4 of my sata hard drives appear to have taken a hike - my one IDE drive is still functional -- however it contains my windows/XP system.
