DVdrip has an easy interface, use it. Mencoder is not easy to use.

Install it, launch it.
You'll also need transcode:

and perl, gtk+, etc.

Add this to your /etc/apt/sources.list:
deb
ftp://ftp.nerim.net/debian-marillat/ sarge main
Do:
apt-get update && apt-get install dvdrip
In a terminal of course
