well, the 12 cd's are for EVERYTHING you ever might want or need - you don't really need to download them.
I would reccomend that you download the netinstall CD, boot it up and then you get to install the stuff that you need from the net- just the stuff that you need. And then in the future you can use apt-get to install anything else you might need.
I don't know how many cd's there are, but there are far too many. However, you only need the first one. The other ones just have aditional packages, so they are not necessary. Of course if you ever need those other packages you could download them directly. Also, packages are ordered by popularity (the most popular on the first cd, etc), so you most prbably won't need packages from the third cd onwards.

It helps if you choose a fast ftp mirror. I reset my pc and restarted the installation a few times till I got a decient one.
Now if only my isp's debian mirror worked deciently I'd have my downloads completly maxed out and not subtracting from my monthly limit.
it installed, and is now in like 6 colours, at 60hz and really crappy resoloution, and it wont let me access the hard drive!!!! i cant change the damm read write things either, fs

2 hours,for THIS!
"dpkg-reconfigure xserver-xfree86" in a terminal to reconfigure the video. Not sure what could be happening with the drives though. o.O
