Debian Sarge to Etch Upgrade Caused X Windows to Not Start

I recently updated my Debian Sarge install to Etch. I was running the 2.6.8 Kernel. After the upgrade my X Windows would fail to start. The problem from the log was that it could not find the /dev for my mouse. I spent hours trying to find the /dev for my mouse. It turns out all I had to do was use apt-get to upgrade my kernel to the most recent kernel for Etch and it fixed my problems. I hope this will save you guys some time.

Lucky you i had fun for 3 hours.

If I upgraded my kernel then it made me install udev and thus remove hotplug so it wouldn't see my mouse.

If i didn't update my kernel X wouldn't load due to problems with my Nvidia card.

I found the fix by reinstalling the drivers using a guide here:
Debian-nVidia installation

The swap over to Xorg was never going to be smooth in my eyes
