console-setup-mini freezes and blocks upgrades

This one has been driving me crazy. I can no longer to any safe-upgrades on my Debian Squeeze system. The problem is that console-setup-mini has somehow got in the queue for things to do when upgrading or now installing any package using aptitude. During the upgrade process (early on) it decides to run console-setup-mini which is fine although nothing needs configuring as far as I know. The problem is that it starts off wanting me to select a keyboard which I do and then click OK and it returns immediately leaves the ncurses environment and freezes. If I just click cancel it won't quit, if I select any other keyboard (mine is UK) it freezes. If I ctl-c out of it. It also returns to the console and freezes. It never gets beyond selecting a keyboard and then it freezes. I have tried every known aptitude command on console-setup-mini: remove, purge, install reinstall, hold, keep but it still gets run whenever I try to upgrade or just install a package. And once it runs it freezes and if I ctl-c to unfreeze it, it either runs again or simply exits aptitude saying I have 27 packages partially configured.

Any ideas on how I can get rid of this pest or at least get past it to complete my upgrades.

Any help will be gratefully received.

Ok, I read the bug report on console-setup-mini and there are many. Someone suggested moving xorg.conf (yes, I still have it) out of the way and then doing the upgrade. It worked a treat. This seems quite a common problem in Debian systems so if you're reading this and you still have an xorg.conf file sitting in /etc/X11 then just rename it and that should sort things out.
Oh, and don't forget to move xorg.conf back once you've done your upgrade.
