I have attempted to install kino but it fails because it depends on libquicktime1 whereas I already have dvdstyler installed that depends on libquicktime0.
Does anyone know why there are 2 libs ? and why they are conflicting?
Obviously, it's quite natural that someone might want to use both kino and dvdstyler...
Evidently, you're drawing applications from someplace other than Sarge's repositories. People can't seem to get it through their heads that Sarge is "stable." That means you install it and leave it alone. If you want to install outside programs, you should be using Etch.
I am sure there is a lot of sense in what you are saying but I am only talking about stable packages:
kino (0.75-7/stable) -> libquicktime1 (0.9.3.2/stable)
dvdstyler (1:1.4-0sarge0.4/stable) -> libquicktime0 (1:0.9.7-0.4sarge2/stable)
So my questions is: surely, kino and dvdstyler should be allowed to coexist in sarge but they can't because it looks like they depend on two very similar libs that can't be installed together...
It only includes libquicktime1 and it doesn't include dvdstyler at all ... so you must have a different Debian than I do, if you're getting those packages from Stable repos.

Google reveals debian-multimedia.org as the source. To the OP you could always try to rebuild the dvdstyler package from source using your install to get the dependencies right.
