Compaq Proliant G3 with Smart array 641

Hello we have a new server that i want to test Debian on but it can not find the harddisks.

I have looked at google and they all say use the compact disk to boot but these disk does not find the disks also.

i have tried the cd with all available options bf24 compact vanilla enz but no go.

Can somebody please point me to the right bootdisk or tell me how to make my own rescue and root disks. i guess it has something to dowith the cciss driver.

Thanks for your time

Create the boot floppies needed to install Debian. You find a kernel-config somwhere on the floppies or on your debian mirror (I don't remember exactly) Load this config, add smart array support and recompile the kernel. Put this kernel on the boot floppy, that should work. I installed Debian on a Proliant G3 that way.

well i have been editing and compiling but nothing seems to work.

the option's of Compaq raid controllers in Block devices was already in the kernel.

I have tried to use the kernel config on a 2.4.23 kernel with exactly the same options but then my kernel gets too big.

This is getting a little frustrating .

Are there some newer flop images to start the server with.

I also did see somewhere that the compaq drivers of kernel 2.4.18 are not optimal with the 641 raid controllers that why i used the 2.4.24 kernel (eith the size problem after that.

Or can i use redhat or slackware kernels instead.?? those seems to work
