BADSIG 010908312D230C5F and other apt "fun"

I'm using apt-cacher to cache apt packages and lists on my network. Everything was peachy, but recently I started receiving this message during updates:
Code:
W: GPG error: http://svedberg testing Release: The following signatures were invalid: BADSIG 010908312D230C5F Debian Archive Automatic Signing Key (2006) <ftpmaster@debian.org>
W: GPG error: http://svedberg unstable Release: The following signatures were invalid: BADSIG 010908312D230C5F Debian Archive Automatic Signing Key (2006) <ftpmaster@debian.org>
W: You may want to run apt-get update to correct these problems
(svedberg is the machine running apt-cacher)

The problem is intermittent and only occurs when I am using apt-cacher; if I directly access the mirror, everything is fine.

On other occasions, the tail of the update looks like this:
Code:
...
Get: 23 http://svedberg sarge/main Packages [2443kB]
Get: 24 http://svedberg sarge/contrib Packages [39.0kB]
Get: 25 http://svedberg sarge/non-free Packages [35.4kB]
Get: 26 http://svedberg sarge/main Sources [960kB]
Get: 27 http://svedberg sarge/contrib Sources [18.6kB]
Get: 28 http://svedberg sarge/non-free Sources [14.6kB]
Get: 29 http://svedberg unstable/main Packages [4403kB]
Get: 30 http://svedberg unstable/main Packages [4403kB]
Get: 31 http://svedberg unstable/non-free Packages [65.9kB]
Get: 32 http://svedberg unstable/non-free Packages [65.9kB]
Get: 33 http://svedberg unstable/main Sources [1278kB]
Get: 34 http://svedberg unstable/main Sources [1278kB]
Get: 35 http://svedberg testing/main Packages [39.5kB]
Get: 36 http://svedberg unstable/main Packages [39.3kB]
99% [30 Packages bzip2 0] 2485kB/s 0s
at which point it hangs. Note the numerous duplicate instances and that, on decompressing the first duplicate pair is the hanging point. When it does work, it looks like this instead:
Code:
Get: 23 http://svedberg sarge/main Packages [2443kB]
Get: 24 http://svedberg sarge/contrib Packages [39.0kB]
Get: 25 http://svedberg sarge/non-free Packages [35.4kB]
Get: 26 http://svedberg sarge/main Sources [960kB]
Get: 27 http://svedberg sarge/contrib Sources [18.6kB]
Get: 28 http://svedberg sarge/non-free Sources [14.6kB]
Get: 29 http://svedberg testing/main Packages [39.5kB]
Get: 30 http://svedberg unstable/main Packages [39.3kB]
Fetched 3785kB in 15s (251kB/s)
Reading package lists... Done
(sometimes followed by the GPG complaints I mentioned before).

Again, this only ever happens when I'm going through apt-cacher (and apt-proxy has its own host of problems). Everything was smooth a few days ago. Does anyone have any idea what's broken?

Thanks!

I've seen some reports of a maintainer quitting and thus removing his GPG sig from the system. That resulted in similar errors, IIRC.

That makes sense for the GPG errors... especially since I found something on Google about this happening to a lot of people as of June 30 this year. But any idea about the duplicate file entry and the seizing up?
