Damn shame. I downloaded, and dist upgraded kanotix the day before all this went down. It has been the first distro that brought me through all of the updates without a crash, and as I was specifically looking for something based on Sid (to get ahead of the game), this distro worked great!. I have since changed out the kernel, and made other customizations with no problem whatsoever.

Sidux is continuing the work with Sid that Kanotix was doing. No install disk yet, but it is possible to upgrade from Kanotix or even from Etch/Sid.

sidux is an operating system based on the Linux kernel, Debian's most modern branch (called "Sid") and free and open source applications.

On 24th of November 2006 sidux was formed by a group of people who strive to do the impossible: making Debian Sid (aka "Unstable") stable. The goal is becoming the best Debian Sid based live distro with special focus on clean and easy hard disk install. Strategic milestones and 3-4 planned releases timetabled will give stability and accountability to corporate and home users with a demand for bleeding edge software running on modern hardware, and a definable path over time.

Sidux, Debian Sid on the bleeding edge.

Can't agree more. I only use SID and have no problems what so ever with stability. I dist-upgrade every week but before you do so make sure to check if nothing will break. That's all there is to it.
It's a shame to see so many forks of Debian where all those devs could be working on one distro. It slows development down.

Not really Sidux devs plan on making sure all the packages work upstream, some are very helpful like knxcc a menu for kcontrol that has boot, network, display, time, server settings. Not to mention the really cool scripts that Kano came up with to make installing things like video drivers a snap. h2 has an awesome d-u script that includes warnings and fixes for potential problems, and a nice back-up script.

Little things like that are what make running Kanotix/Sidux more fun and easier than running pure Debian Sid, there are very few differences with Sidux and it uses the normal Debian Sid repos.

Most of the Kanotix/Sidux users d-u daily, which is what I have done for 2 yrs with no breakage.

The people in #sidux irc and forum are normally much more helpful than the "pure" Debian geeks in #debian.

It is much easier to get help from a small community, especially once you get to know everyone.

Personally I consider Sidux nothing more than Debian Sid with a few tweaks, no matter what the 'pure' Debian fanatics have to say. If it was anything else my sources.list would be much bigger than:
# Unstable Sid
deb http://http.us.debian.org/debian/ unstable main contrib non-free
deb-src http://http.us.debian.org/debian/ unstable main contrib non-free

# sidux info: http://sidux.com/module-pnWikka.html

# Marillat Unstable
