Question Replacement Word Processor For DSL Needed ASAP

Now that Win98 won't support mice on the famaly internet computer I have installed DSL (right before the CDROM drive went with it so that there is no way back).

However the important point is that my mother is in need of a word processor that support change tracking and MS *.doc files.
I tried MyDSL byt it spat out that I was not a user and looked on the site but didn't find much help there either.

If someone can point me to a place that I can get this very much thanks.

(Advice on which Firefox package to download would help and were to get replacement everything else along with it).

Why DSL? That would not be my choice for a general-purpose family computer. I recommend fixing or replacing the CD and installing something like Ubuntu, Mepis, or PCLOS. Any of the modern mainstream distros is going to have everything you need using the package manager.

It is possible that the CD drive can be salvaged by cleaning it, but I think it would be better in the long run to get a drive that will read and write CDs.

Post the specs on the computer for more specific advice---RAM, HD size, etc.

If a had a choice here I would have installed Fedora Core (I have that on the box in my room) but:
It could hardly manage Windows 98 SE and none of the other light weight distros I hava on disk support the modem.
Any way the point is does anyone have advice on how to get programs installed onto a DSL box since MyDSL and the rpm program that come with it have failed?

Well that would have of been my second choice if the were things like linkers and asbelers let alone a compiler with this disrtro but they were removed to make room for tetris.

What I´m really asking is if there is a collection of programs for DSL someplace other than the official site?
