Hey folks, anybody know what I'm doing wrong here?
I finally got DSL to recognize my printer in the office by using the generic postscript driver, installing the
samba.unc extension, and getting the ip address of the Windows computer the printer is hooked up to.
But when I reboot, the printer settings aren't being restored properly so I have to go through the apsfilter setup process every time I boot up the computer. Needless to say, that's quite a pain.
So, here's how I've got things set up at shutdown and at boot:
- I added /opt/apsfilter to the filetool.lst file.
- I use the lpd cheat code to have the printer daemon start up at boot.
Unfortunately, when I reboot DSL doesn't recognize the printer I set up, even though the settings
appear to have been correctly restored in the
/opt/apsfilter folder.
Help! If I don't get this computer working to the point where any of the staffers here can sit down and use it without too much hassle, my boss is going to make me waste office money on a new computer running (shudder) Vista! It's just a backup computer for volunteers and interns, so I don't want to have to blow over $1,500 of our precious budget on Windoze Fista! ;-)
So...
Are there any other cheat codes I need to use at boot?
Are there any commands I should add to the
.xinitrc or
bootlocal.sh files?
Are there any other files I need to add to
filetool.lst?
Do I have the
wrong files added to
filetool.lst?
Is there an easy script I could cut & paste (since I suck at bash scripting) that could go through the apsfilter setup process automatically at boot?
THANKS IN ADVANCE! Whoever provides me a solution will receive a
virtual case of beer as a prize! Hehehe.
