Red face mouse not working with DSL 3.1

I booted up using DSL 3.1 live CD. Desktop came up with active intro window. But mouse malfunctions. As soon as I move my mouse, cursor moves to the center of the screen and freezes, opening right click menu. After that, mouse is useless.
I managed to close intro window with "ctrl+q" but then I can do nothing else. I dont even know how 2 shutdown the OS.

I am new to linux so take my advice accordingly....I have a similar problem only my mouse doesn't respond at all. I think it might be my I/O card which DSL doesn't seem to recognize. The mouse is currently connected to it. It is a serial connect mouse, I might have to connect the mouse directly to the motherboard's com port or install a driver for the I/O card.

I am right now trying DSL on a very conventional PC which has a ASUS A7N8X motherboard and AMD XP-2500 processor. DSL has a definite confusion when it comes to PS/2 mouse detection/operation. Five re-boots so far, each time trying variations to the startup. Each time ends up in a desktop where a mouse movement is doing something, but it is random and uncontrolled.

There are some things we notice on the way..
1. The mouse was detected as PS/2 mouse on device /dev/psaux. This gets ignored later.
2. In my case, DSL launches into "xsetup", no matter I include "xsetup" in the boot option or not. During xsetup, the "PS2" option does become available "for newer computers". It still fails.
3. I have a earlier version of DSL which I abandondoned because of this same inability to get it going. KNOPPIX, seems to do very similar, if not identical startup tests, and always manages to find and get the mouse working with no problem.

I would love to explore DSL some, but this has become a near-permanent stumble.
