DSL & iPod Mini

Due to a recent failure of my hard drive, I have been using Knoppix on my laptop and my Mini as a jump drive. However, I didn't like how much noise the CD drive made and how slow everything was with Knoppix so I tried to use DSL booted to RAM. I had the Mini connected to the laptop's onboard USB port but DSL couldn't read the partition. (I know that the Mini has a strange partitioning table) I tried to boot with the Mini connected to a USB-to-PCMCIA adapter but then it freezes when it tries to aquire an IP address. I turned off the power but I soon realized that my Mini has become a brick. (ie, it refuses to turn on through any means)

I tried everything from resetting the iPod to synching it with Windows XP but the Mini refuses to turn on and Windows nor Knoppix can rezognize it. Am I completely screwed here?

I don't mind the fact that I lost all the data on my Mini since I had most of it backed up. What really ticks me off is that I cannot use it anymore. I hope the warrenty I got with the Mini will cover this.

If you want to repair the unit yourself you can try this link:

http://www.pdasmart.com/ipodpartscenter1g.htm

The power interruption probably trashed the drives MBR and disc geometry which is probably why it is "unbootable" unless the unit's power supply was also damaged when you pulled the plug.

Good luck with the repair.
