To "Ken" -- Please capitalize, this is a forum NOT a f'g chat room. If you don't think it's necessary, read Raymond's ("ESR") How To Ask Questions The Smart Way . On second thought, read it anyway.

Ken, let me run this by you ...

you entered a world that is dominated by certain rules of communication, a protocol if you like.
In here we do not care about race, creed, colour or sex;
We try to form our questions in a clear cut informative and no matter how urgent, polite way.

And especially what annoys most of us, is whining - almost every computer prof. - be it Operator, Developer or simply a "geek" gets enough of that from everyday "(l)user".

See the hardware as a simple entity that doesn't do anything, except what the user tells it to do ...
if you run rm -rf / as root, don't blame the "evil, evil" OS for deleting all your files.

Some lines above I told you that we did not care about race etc - there is one thing which we do care about, strongly in fact, that is discriminating || offensive remark - 'specially if the border on racist remarks.

With this in mind and the telling off that you received by the other members in the forum,
would you like to:

a) like to clearly rephrase your post, so in due course the community may be able to help you,
and
b) change your signature and display the respect that becomes every member in this community.
Even though you think you have added information about your problem, you still haven't bothered to use the rules of English you were, presumably, taught in school. W/o punctuation & capitalization, your post is too much work to try to read for comprehesion. If you dis ME by being too lazy to write in a form I can easily read, then I am too "lazy" to to bother to try to help YOU. As my friend Steve from Brooklyn says "FM? FY!"

If you think we are coming down on you too hard, read ESR's section: On Not Reacting Like A Loser.

To Jeremy & all moderators:

I hereby formally request that if this apparent racist does not change his sig w/in one week, it be forcibly changed to "Ken the (removed) Racist" & his acct. closed.

His failure to respond to both polite & not-so-polite requests is intolerable.

archtoad6,

We appreciate the fact you've been proactive in making members aware of the rules and policies of this forum but after a moderator has made direct posts to members to make them aware of the rules, we really don't need to take any action there afterwards, especially if your only going to call the member names that might not be totally true. We all know that certain things might offend others, you just have to be patient while the moderators handle such situations and at least get an explanation, etc.

It was made clear that the member in question has ignored such warnings and repeatedly asks the same question, the moderators are handling the situation at this time and calling people racists or asking that we close their account proclaiming they are a racist is a drastic measure at this time that would never happen. LQ.org would never stoop to a level to make assumptions we don't know is true, deragatory in anyway shape or form and so on.

If you have any questions or concerns yourself, please feel free to email any moderator or Jeremy himself.

Sorry if I over reacted, but the apparent racism of the sig in question is just not acceptable. Even if you think my proposal is too drastic, I hope you folks in charge will do whatever it takes to insure that the offensive word no longer appears in public.

Oh yes, & there is always the partial solution of putting the the party in question on one's ignore list. [done]
