I did a search for this problem and found nothing so far.
I installed FreeOffice and whenever I click on the "open" menu item to open a file, the dialog box stays at the bottom of all other windows. I have to minimize every other open window in order to find and use it. I tried every window setting as far as putting it on top and remembering that setting and locking the setting. It will remember as long as the dialog box is open but as soon as it closes it forgets the setting and I have to reapply the setting all over again.
I really like using Bodhi but I love using FreeOffice. If I had to choose between the two I would opt for another distro in order to use my favorite Word Processor. Maybe this is an issue with Ubuntu 18.04 because when I was using Peppermint on Ubuntu 16.04 it always worked.
I will download the previous version of Bodhi based on Ubuntu 16.04, run it live, install FreeOffice and let you know if the problem goes away.
Okay. I have found a couple of problems with Bodhi and dialog windows. The first was described in my initial post^. The other was when using Palemoon Browser, some of the dialog boxes became unresposive and froze the application.
This is unfortunate because for the most part I liked the way Bodhi. There was also the strange way the menus were arranged and sub menus titled, but I was able to fix those to my liking by editing the .desktop files etc.
The other thing I did to try and improve my Bodhi experience was remove and purge Midori Browser. Let's face it, that browser crashes constantly, the bookmarking setup is horrible and it just plain blows. I would recommend another browser for this distro like Falkon if you want something lightweight. Like I said I prefer Palemoon but it doesn't run well on Bodhi so I was using Firefox which worked well.
So I tried Bodhi for a few months and decided to go back to Peppermint OS. It just works. If you are looking for something really light weight I would go: Puppy, Peppermint, Xubuntu or Ubuntu Mate (in that order of "lightness"). I have tried all the other lightweight distros and I really think those are good choices. Sorry Bodhi.
Thanks for your help everyone. I will try Bodhi again when 6.0 come out but I'm guessing that will be in a few years.
Yes, you are right. This open dialog window position is an old issue. I am surprised the window remembering does not work for you. It works fine here. Anyway the easiest way to move with window which exceeds the screen limit is grabing the window with mouse (left button) simultaneously with ALT key.
