Setup FTP server using VsFtp and Configure Secure FTP connections on Ubuntu 14.04 Server

Posted Today at 10:13 AM by sridhar11

vsftpd is a GPL licensed FTP server for UNIX systems, including Linux. It is secure and extremely fast. It is stable. Don't take my word for it, though. Below, we will see evidence supporting all three assertions. We will also see a list of a few important sites which are happily using vsftpd. This demonstrates vsftpd is a mature and trusted solution.

DebEX Barebone build 140819

Posted Yesterday at 12:14 PM by exton (Exton's Blog)

The DebEX Barebone ISO is now a ISO-hybrid, which means that it can very easily be transferred to a USB pen drive. You can then even run DebEX Barebone from the USB stick and save all your system changes on the stick. I.e. you will enjoy persistence! Read this INSTRUCTION. NetworkManager has been removed. It doesn’t go together with Wicd when it comes to configuring wireless networks. I’ve added the applications GParted (partition editor), AbiWord, Icedove (Thunderbird) and AlsaPlayer. Study the...

Auxiliary script to rename multiple files adding a zero-padding to them

Posted Yesterday at 12:37 AM by the dsc (linux-related notes)

From this blog:

http://www.walkingrandomly.com/?p=2850

Code:
#!/bin/bash
num=`expr match "$1" '[^0-9]*\([0-9]\+\).*'`
paddednum=`printf "%03d" $num`
echo ${1/$num/$paddednum}
Usage example:

for i in *.png;do mv $i `./zeropad.sh $i`; done

Possibly there's some syntax to do just that only with the "rename" command, though.

Updated 08-17-2014 at 11:14 AM by exton

LFA (Linux for All) is a remaster of Ubuntu 14.04.1 LTS, codenamed Trusty Tahr, released July 25, 2014. The original system includes the Desktop Environment Unity (Ubuntu). I have added LXDE, Razor-qt and XBMC (An award-winning free and open source (GPL) software media player and entertainment hub for digital media) as alternatives, so that everyone on the spot (during live operation) can compare the different four Desktop Environments. The system language is English.

Topics I am sick of.

Posted 08-16-2014 at 10:08 PM by Randicus Draco Albus

Excuse me, but time to rant.
Two things I am SICK of seeing on fora everywhere are:
Questions and pleas for help about Wine.
Pleas for help to dual-boot a Linux system with Windows.

Although I almost always ignore any thread concerning those two topics, the shear number of them, everywhere on the internet, has driven me to the point of being sickened by the sight of those titles. Either install and use something else or continue using Windows. Too simple for many people...
