Back to the drawing board

Okay, so, this approach failed. And...I think I know why.
Starting a Live CD (any Live CD) creates a file system...in memory. Installing anything makes that install in ... memory. I tried to persist that to disk by copying, but to no avail.
For example:

grub-install /dev/sda
did'nt work, could'nt stat rootfs, so

Quote:
grub-install --root-directory=/boot
failed too, as it installed in memory.

Back to the drawing board...
