It's snowing outside, time to get out of here!

Posted 10-27-2020 at 09:47 AM by onebuck

Hi,

Just snow flurries but it is dropping temperature fast. Time to head south for the winter. Leaving tomorrow morning at 04:00 and driving straight thru. Should be home in Florida by late Wednesday night, about 17 hour drive. My wife said she would drive 5-6 hours at the start. So I will finish the trip. She sets speed at 80-85 mph, a little fast for me but she's driving and I will bite my tongue. She should make it to Tennessee before I take over. she doesn't like to drive the mountains. I set my speed to 76-78 mph with lane assist on the Honda. Set the Sirius to the 60's and I am set to drive.

It does seem to get easier each year packing since my wife organizes the baggage by using storage containers. I make sure my clubs are packed with all my other equipment. I want too take some tools that are needed in Florida but it might be a squeeze and she will most certainly frown on that. I just cannot see buying something I have here when we have the space in the van.

It's getting where we are thinking about Florida as our permanent residence with all the changes and control here in Illinois. Illinois is home state mainly because of her family being here. Most of mine is long gone. It happens! We will probably keep the house in Illinois but at sometime it maybe sold and move to a smaller investment.Time to get rid of some of my stuff. I will miss my wood shop and other things but I like to keep warm in the winter. This old body has worked outside for a long time on the farm and do not miss that labor, just miss the solitude with open space. Plus I cannot shoot as often as I wish. Miss my target range on the farm. I only hunt at Kroger or Walmart since my wife doesn't like game meat.

We have a new golf outing at our Florida home club and looking forward to taking their money and the fun shared with everyone. I haven't been able to play here for the last ten days but it still takes me a while to get accustomed to the grass and sand base in Florida. Greens seem to be faster at most courses in Florida as compared to Illinois. We played the General south course at Eagle Ridge in Galena Il and that was one fine outing. Fairways were beautiful but tight at times and smooth greens that were very fast. I shot a 80 (8 over par) and it felt great. My only complaint was that most fairways were roped off so you did a lot of walking from the cart to the ball. Got my days steps in on the first nine. I am limited to using a cart because of pulmonary and heart issues but the exercise is necessary to keep going.

Got a little winded today but cannot wait to get back to the Florida warmth before more snow here in Illinois!

I will be away from LQ for a few days until my services are turned back on in Florida.
Have fun & enjoy life!
