Hi,
we wanna use an existing network of AIX RS6000machines with new Gentoo machines. For this it is necessary to connect between the machines with rlogin or telnet. At both worlds we use German keyboard layouts. At Gentoo I tried de, de-latin1-nodeadkeys, de-latin1. Always the same problem.
Now the Problem:
Connecting from Gentoo to AIX using xterm I have the Esc, Backspace and Arrow Keys working, any other Function Keys, del, insert, scroll lock are not working. For Example Alt-d produces ä at the console. Using aterm is even worse, for only Esc is working.
I tried every export TERM= I could think of, copied a /etc/inputrc from another post here, connected via telnet -e vt102, fooled around in /etc/profile, put in
Code:
export TERM=xterm-r6
if tty --quiet ; then
stty erase '^H'
fi
if [ "$TERM" = "xterm" -o "$TERM" = "xterm-r6" -o "$TERM" = "rxvt" ];
then
# activate keypad
echo -en '\033>'
# BackSpace sends ^H
echo -en '\033[36h'
fi
export INPUTRC="/etc/inputrc" was always present, I recompiled xterm, aterm, in.telnetd and in.rshd without unicode support, I set environment Variables
Code:
export LANG="de_DE"
export LANGUAGE="de_DE"
#export LANG="en_US"
#export LANGUAGE="en_US"
No effect at all!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
The AIX machines work with german keyboard and a 8859-1 keymap. Gentoo uses a german keyboard (keymap=de in /etc.rc.conf). I tried CONSOLETRANSLATION="8859-1_to_uni"
my /etc/rc.conf
Code:
KEYMAP="de"
#KEYMAP="de-latin1"
#KEYMAP="de-latin1-nodeadkeys"
SET_WINDOWKEYS="no"
EXTENDED_KEYMAPS=
#EXTENDED_KEYMAPS="backspace keypad"
CONSOLEFONT="default8x16"
CONSOLETRANSLATION="8859-1_to_uni"
#EDITOR="/bin/nano"
EDITOR="/usr/bin/vim"
#EDITOR="/usr/bin/emacs"
The weird Thing is: If I login to an AIX machine, export the DISPLAY to my local machine and start an aixterm, there is only a warning the aixterm cannot find the roman font it usually uses (which is a luxury problem I will solve if I have nothing else to do for five minutes). All the Keystrokes I do on the Gentoo machine get to the AIX machine correctly!!!! So if rlogin or telnet tunnel the commands to an X application, everything is alright, but on the console it is not.
My Keyboard definition in xorg.conf looks like this
Code:
Section "InputDevice"
Driver "kbd"
Identifier "Keyboard[0]"
Option "Protocol" "Standard"
Option "XkbLayout" "de"
Option "XkbModel" "pc105"
# Option "XkbRules" "xfree86"
Option "XkbVariant" "nodeadkeys"
EndSection
I'm totally out of ideas now. Did I miss anything?
Anyone got a kombination like this working?
Any hints where to look?
Thanks at first for reading this rather lengthy post
and in advance for any suggestions.
