Again it's a true cross-platform success like VLC; ffmpeg simply the best. Many tools add their wrappers on the ffmpeg.

FFMPEG obviously. It can act as backend to most other multimedia utilities.

hard to choose between GStreamer and FFmpeg. voted FFmpeg.
edit: yeah, i agree with some of you guys, FFmpeg is kinda overlooked but used by many other MM components. + stable and functional.
