synaptic


dear all


which the equivalent to synaptic on freeBSD6.1 ? on the debian knoppix i used the synaptic to update or install any application and thes permit me to see any update trougth UI, i am a newbis on the BSD but i whant to use equivalent i know on freeBSD have the portsnap or portupgrade

thanks for your help

read this chapter and this one. The first tells you how to update software installed from ports, and the later explains how to update the base system. With FreeBSD, the handbook really is your best friend.

Edit: Even though the second chapter is labelled "The Cutting Edge" the same principles apply for just keeping your system uptodate with the most recent releases, or security updates.

If synaptic is an gui program use portbrowser.
It is found in ports and probably in packages.
