Qmail failure notice

Hi,
This may be the wrong forum to post in, and I apologize if it is.
It is also possible that I have not done enough searching to solve this problem on my own.
Some background-
I set up FreeBSD 5.1 on an old box, and with some help (which is no longer available), got it to function as a router and firewall for a small family network using an ISDN ckt.
It works well, but sendmail kept complaining that it was "unable to qualify my own domain name". I believe that I have corrected this by editing the /etc/hosts and /etc/rc.conf files. In each case , I changed the name from "freebsd" to "freebsd.machine.net" So for, it has not done any more whining. I include this because it may have a bearing on my question
Being the power user that I am, I decided that I would give linux from scratch a try. By page 7, I decided that subscribing to the lfs-support list might be a good idea. So I tried. I was hurt when I got the following e-mail a minute or so later:

Hi. This is the qmail-send program at texoma.net.
I'm afraid I wasn't able to deliver your message to the following addresses.
This is a permanent error; I've given up. Sorry it didn't work out.

<listar@linuxfromscratch.org>:
216.171.238.83 does not like recipient.
Remote host said: 550 <listar@linuxfromscratch.org>: User unknown in local recipient table
Giving up on 216.171.238.83.

There was more, but I think this is the relevent part. I've not had an email rejected before. I use debian on a machine behind the FreeBSD router, and everyone else uses winXP.
I have googled 550 (guess this is the error code) with little success. I am not sure if it is FreeBSD (which I suspect), something in debian, or if the folks at LFS just don't like me.
Sorry this is so long. Any help is appreciated.
David

By going to the main LFS site, and using the mailinglists link, I subscribed and was confirmed with no problem. I do not understand why the instructions in the book (lfs-4.1) did not work. I admit this causes me some concern about how the rest of this project is going to turn out. Sorry for taking up space in this forum with this thread.

User unknown in local recipient table

That was there problem, something advertised on the page or in the book doesn't match real life right now, if you sort out why one worked and the other didn't, might want to drop postmaster@linuxfromscratch a mail about it.

Cheers,

Finegan

Thank you for the answer. I am not knowledgeable about FreeBSD at all, and since it kept complaining about sendmail, and I had an e-mail problem, I assumed I was at fault.
Right now I feel like I am waist deep in alligators, and don't know what to hit at first.
Thanks again.
