freebsd 5.2.1 and acpi

I have used freebsd now for two weeks and all is good.Makes a great desktop with KDE.Sound and video were relatively easy to setup and I'm really liking it.There is just one hitch though I can not get the computer to powerdown.I use 'shutdown -h now' and system halts then I press key to reboot-no problem there but when I "shutdown -p now" system halts and message says "powering off with ACPI" [close to that] except it stops there, power remains on,and I think the drives are still humming as well [I am not techy].So then I shut off power switch at back of comp as pressing the button on front just reboots it.Is that bad to do if drives are still active?Anyhow,I am thinking that I must "acpiconf" to configure acpi.Is that correct and if so,what do I do?Any help or thought wanted.Thank you in advance.

If you are at that stage then your drives are unmounted and it should be safe to shutoff the computer. I say should because most modern drives will move the head off of the data area when the power goes out. If you have really old drives... I mean really old... like 40 meg drives... then I would worry.

I have never used the acpiconf tool. On my main machine everything works fine. I did have another machine that had a problem with the acpi clock and it caused enough problems that I just turned acpi off and left it off.

I'll go look at the man page myself for that tool but I have never used it so I doubt i can offer any advice on how it will help.
