CUPS_parallel port printer

i just installed FreeBSD-6.2 a couple of days ago, using KDE as a desktop, did some reading about it and been using slackware for years so the install was not difficult, i did find /boot/defaults/loader.conf and enabled ulpt_load="YES" (changed a NO to YES) rebooted and started cupsd then opened konqueror to http://localhost:631 to set up my printer using a ppd file i know works with cups & slackware, problem is i still can not print
Description: HPDJ842
Location: Local Printer
Make and Model: HP DeskJet 842C Foomatic/hpijs (recommended)
Printer State: idle, accepting jobs, published.
Device URI: lpd://parallel:/dev/lp0

any idea what i am doing wrong?

Not too sure, but doesn't the location variable have to be the computer that the printer is connected to, such as localhost or the computer's hostame?

yeah, i kind if figured the device URI was wrong, just that i am not familiar enough with FreeBSD to change it properly, i have looked thru /var/log/messages and tried a few variants using what BSD calls it in /var/log/messages, however it does recognize my printer even down to the make & model number...

How are you trying to print? The cups port installs several lp* programs (which already exist in the base system, unfortunately).

Example:
Code:
[hector@troy ~]$ which -a lp
/usr/bin/lp
/usr/local/bin/lp
The cups version is in /usr/local/bin. So make sure when you attempt to print you're using /usr/local/bin/lp. (Some folks rename the /usr/bin versions after installing cups; google around for some FreeBSD cups howtos.)
