choppy sound

I recently applied a patch to achieve 1024x768 vesa console for my laptop. It works like a charm. However there is a two to three second delay in transition from X to the console. That, is not what bothers me however. I have noticed that in playing music of any kind whether from xmms or xine there music repeats itself rapidly like a skipping cd until the console terminal displays. This however doesn't happen when going from console to X.

Does anyone know why switching from X to console should cause such intereference to sound

Running FreeBSD 5.3
Compaq Presario 2103 US

Hi koby!

Sorry that I don't have solution, just a me too.
FreeBSD 5.3, vesa-patch for 1280x1024

But I have also choppy (slow) sounds, when I produce much output on a console (for example "find /")
This happens in all VESA modes on console, if I switch console to a text mode everything works fine.

But scaled console displays suck on a TFT ...

On different other sites I found hints that making a new kernel with PREEMPT and FULL_PREEMPT should help, but my attempts where not successful.

bye,
allesmueller
