Hi all, i just finished upgrading my kernel to 2.6.9-ck2 and everything went fine, but when i go into play ut2k4 the sound is very laggy and choppy. when i boot into my old kernel the sound is fine.
I would say 2.6.7 at the latest. 2.6.9 _is_ marked stable on kernel.org, but as a general rule, you shouldnt jump up to the latest kernels right away. Even using 2.4.x is ok, theres nothing "old" about them.
Very good point M00t00,I have in the past installed the next best 'super' kernel only to learn that the one I already use is as good or better. But that is how we learn.Yesterday I installed slackware on my sisters comp which is just like mine and the 2.6.26 kernel that is stock is just as good as my 2.6.9-gentoo-r1.
=]. I say the only reason to go to a new kernel, is if you know a specific feature about it, thats significantly better, or you need it for some reason. Glad I could offer my input..
so basically a new kernel listed as stable may be stable, but not properly supported by drivers and such? if so i will try a compile with a lower version kernel
