Zenwalk Core requirements

I found this:
Quote:
Hardware requirements

These are the minimal hardware requirements to run Zenwalk in Xwindow mode, with correct performance (some lower configs work - ie : PII - , but might be slow) :

* Pentium III class processor
* 128 Mb RAM
* 2Gb HDD
But I think these are mostly for the full version. What is the minimal for the core version+a window manager like fluxbox installed?

You want at least 128mb of ram to run any linux without frustration using a minimalistic window manager and few other applications(firefox,etc.).

This is my best guess so don't put your life on it, but I'd say at least 64MB of RAM and depending on what apps you run, a PII processor. Firefox and OO.o will load slowly on 64 so try running Abiword and Opera/Dillo.

I've never used Zenwalk but if you need to look for apps that run on old machines, see what Damn Small Linux runs (with the exception of Firefox).

Post your system specs so we can get a better picture.

Take a look here:

and here:

I think it is difficult to say exactly what the minimum is until you try it.

Hi this is the spec of the mc's I have running Zenwalk3

PIII 567mhz 128bm ram 10gb hd

standard install xfce ect runs well bigger apps take while to start up. Firefox 4-5 sec but runs well when up. I have installed Sylpheed as my mail app and dillo for speed but as long as you dont have to many apps running its a very usable mc.

mc2

AMD k6 300mhz 256mb ram 3gb hd

As above just slower ok for web and email writing xchat etc but the gimp, inkscape, are to slow for me.

As a side note I bought these mc's (3 old pc's with monitors and printers £12) to start learning the command line and have to say for a noob with an old pc the Zenwalk install was very easy. I come from the mac side so these are my first i386 mc's and the hardest part of the install was figuring out how to start the cd!.

I have to say I've been impressed with Zenwalk on my old pc's.

Well, I have quite a good system: PIV-3GHZ, 512RAM, HDD-160GB. I was just curious about its minimal requirements, because I want it to fly on my system.
@darkscot: Very enlightening your links
LE: It does fly
