no gui

After solving several problems related to getting rid of a gpt partition format, finally got VL [soho 7.0 final1 of may 2012 on Linux3.2.6] installed and booted, but then got message that can't use GUI because "need KDM or GDM or WDM or XDM" and none of them was installed with the "Full Install" that I selected.
Why wasn't one of them installed with full install selection and how can I rectify the problem?
