Disable onboard soundcard

I have a slight problem.. I have an onboard soundcard as well as a Soundblaster Audigy 2. Vector seems to default to the onboard one and not pipe sound through the SB. I don't want to disable the onboard in the bios because I still have reasons to use it in windows, but I want Vector to run through the SB Audigy. I was wondering how to disable the onboard in Vector? I've read I can do this by adding the modules to the blacklist but I don't even know where to begin looking for those... I have no idea what modules the onboard is using.

Thanks.

The easiest way to set this up is to reconfigure the module load order. This can be done by simply editing /etc/modules.conf (or similar equivilant for your distribution).

Look for the lines:
alias snd-card-0
alias sound-slot-0

and
alias snd-card-1

and simply switch them around. Example:
#before
alias snd-card-0 snd-hda-intel # built-in
alias sound-slot-0 snd-hda-intel
alias snd-card-1 snd-emu10k1 # Audigy
alias sound-slot-1 snd-emu10k1

#after
alias snd-card-0 snd-emu10k1 # Audigy
alias sound-slot-0 snd-emu10k1
alias snd-card-1 snd-hda-intel # built-in
alias sound-slot-1 snd-hda-intel

This is how my system is setup. I use the onboard audio to pipe music to a set of powered speakers on the back porch while I'm BBQ'ing.

Hey, thanks for the reply, unfortunetly this is the only contents of the /etc/module.conf file:

# /etc/modprobe.conf (old location for Linux 2.6+ config)
#
# The use of this config file is deprecated if you are using a
# 2.6.x or newer kernel. Instead, create files in the
# /etc/modprobe.d/ directory containing modprobe options.
#
# For more information, see "man modprobe.conf".

There may be other mod*.conf files in /etc (modules.conf, modprobe.d/*), also modprobe.preload. Root around /etc and see what you find. Try "fgrep -l snd-card-0 /etc/*".

grr... no luck. Even with emu10k1 as the only soundcard and the onboard disabled, Vector doesn't seem to want to pipe sound through it.

There... I managed to get it working by uninstalling ALSA and using the OSS sound system.

Could you send me a link to this Vector, you're talking about? I'd like to look at it.

Thanks.
