CDs and DVDs can be burned directly with Nautilus. There are additional options in the repositories. One package "k9copy" is intended for copying. If you choose, you can also install and run "K3b" or "gnomebaker." Other options exist and can be found with the search function in synaptic.
I am surpised that i cannot find the cd and dvd copier and backup on Ubuntu that I have just loaded for a friend.
Where is K3b or an equivalent surely this essential tool has not been left out of the distro?
Nice distro otherwise.
Go to Synaptic Package Manager, if you're using Ubuntu, its in System/Administration menu... Its probably in something similar in Kubuntu, but I'm not sure exactly where it is.
Do a search for either GnomeBaker or K3b and install one of them. It may not have been installed by default.

Quote:

Thanks I have loaded k3b and appears to work. I have done one dvd under tools.
The second time I tried it though it loaded the image then said it could not open the drawer to change discs.
I rebooted and have done the first disc again and it is now coping the image to a blank disc. Weird I'll now have to make another copy to see if this happens again.
I hope this is not a bug as I do not want to reboot every time I want to make another disc.

You certainly shouldn't.. If you do, something is wrong (frankly I dont' know why you had to reboot the first time). Although I prefer Gnomebaker, I've used K3b many times w/o issues.
