dmesg prints the contains the following lines

[ 0.448296] Cannot allocate resource for EISA slot 1
[ 0.448297] Cannot allocate resource for EISA slot 2
[ 0.448299] Cannot allocate resource for EISA slot 3
[ 0.448301] Cannot allocate resource for EISA slot 4
[ 0.448302] Cannot allocate resource for EISA slot 5
[ 0.448304] Cannot allocate resource for EISA slot 6
[ 0.448305] Cannot allocate resource for EISA slot 7

EISA is an interface type like ISA, VESA, PCI .. it's a slot on your motherboard that you can plug various types of cards into. It's actually a bit of an old one, I thought it was well and truly dead...

cheers

Thanks for the information and quick response. Do the above messages have any effect on the performance of my laptop? How can I rectify it?

I am posting all EISA related lines from dmesg here

[ 0.181007] EISA bus registered
[ 0.456291] EISA: Probing bus 0 at eisa.0
[ 0.456297] Cannot allocate resource for EISA slot 1
[ 0.456299] Cannot allocate resource for EISA slot 2
[ 0.456300] Cannot allocate resource for EISA slot 3
[ 0.456302] Cannot allocate resource for EISA slot 4
[ 0.456303] Cannot allocate resource for EISA slot 5
[ 0.456305] Cannot allocate resource for EISA slot 6
[ 0.456306] Cannot allocate resource for EISA slot 7
[ 0.456312] EISA: Detected 0 cards.

Thanks

There shouldn't be any impact on performance, don't worry about them

cheers

Extended Industry Standard Architecture
IBM pc bus standard.
Errors referencing EISA would seem to be hardware related.

We were talking about this sort of stuff at my LUG tonight.

The old heads said that, when you boot the modern linux kernel, it will probe for all sorts of things. It may or may not find them. The probe is routine. Not finding anything if nothing is there is nothing to worry about.

In this case, it looks like the boot sequence is probing for an EISA components and not finding any.
