WEP key doesn't stay configured between 2 boots

Hi all,

I have just installed Ubuntu on my computer, but there is a little annoying thing : I have to reconfigure network security at each boot : the WEP key just disappears and thus its type (restricted).

Most annoyingly, when I try to configure the network via the graphical interface, if I configure the ssid and the WEP key, the computer freezes up. I can only configure the IP settings and DNS servers via the interface, the rest I do with iwconfig.

Is there a way to store the WEP key in a configuration file that won't disappear?

By the way, iwconfig doesn't report any link quality (0/70) but has quite a good signal level (-72 dBm), just asking if there is something that can be done about it.
Using a D-Link DWL-g122 rev b1 (rt2500 chip) with native Linux drivers (rt2570) automatically determined by Ubuntu.

Thanks in advance.

Yes there is a config file. It is /etc/network/interfaces, and contains the configuration of each of your wired and wireless interfaces. To enter your key, you want to edit the wireless entry, to look something like:
Code:
auto wlan0
iface wlan0 inet dhcp
wireless-essid yourNetworkIdHere
wireless-key yourWirelessKeyHere
Make sure that you enter your wireless key in hexadecimal.

Thanks, now I have at least the WEP key in there at boot, but the type of the key is still a problem : my network is on "restricted", but ubuntu changes it to "open" at every boot, is there a line I could add to that file to make it work?
