vmplayer does not open after installation/configuration

After installing and configuring vmplayer in Xubuntu 6.06, I see the following:

The module loads perfectly in the running kernel.

VMware Player is installed, but it has not been (correctly) configured
for the running kernel. To (re-)configure it, invoke the
following command: /usr/bin/vmware-config.pl.

The configuration of VMware Player 1.0.2 build-29634 for Linux for this running
kernel completed successfully.

You can now run VMware Player by invoking the following command:
"/usr/bin/vmplayer".

Enjoy,

--the VMware team

But when invoking the above command to start vmplayer, I see:

vmware is installed, but it has not been (correctly) configured
for this system. To (re-)configure it, invoke the following command:
/usr/bin/vmware-config.pl.

I can play round-robin all day re-configuring between the two messages above without ever being able to run vmplayer. Can someone help me correct my problem?

Try removing /etc/vmware/not_configured
it should have been removed when vmware player was configured.
You could also try
Code:
sudo dpkg-reconfigure vmware-player

binary_y2k2:

Thanks for the assist. Deleting the /etc/vmware/not_configured file did the trick.

Great thing about the Linux community is there's always someone willing to help those who know less and often end up confused and/or in trouble.
