USB HDD Enclosure

Hi all... I need to back up some data. I have some old drives that I have pulled out of some PC's. I need an enclosure that will take these HDD's. Please give me the company and models that you use. I have plenty of drives, just need enclosure...

Mmm. I think just about any enclosure should do. They're really nothing more than an ide-usb converter and a power supply. Just get one that has the style and features you want.

If you have an extra hard drive, no reason not to use it in this manner, these things are a great idea for mass storage.

I just went through this same thing not to long ago, here was my experience setting it up. Note, I know the one I got from Best Buy was expensive, around $50, but I got it because I wanted to get it all done in a day, because of my schedule, didn't feel like waiting for delivery, etc.. Here's the thread I posted on it.

I bought the Best Buy model(Dynex), and as I mentioned, its expensive compared to the ones I see online at Tigerdirect.com and Newegg.com . I have no experience with the ones below, but they are a couple of the higher rated enclosures for 3.5in drives.

I really like the one I got from Best Buy, but I suspect any of them will work just as well.

Thanks for the info David the H. and IndyGunFreak. I wasn't in too much of a hurry so I just ordered a "USB" powered enclosure from CompUSA. It set me back about 31-32 bucks with shipping. What a major cool Idea to back up data. I am totally jazzed about this. Should get the enclosure sometime next week.

Happy Thanksgiving!!!
