Question Upgrade from 8.04 to 10.04 problem

Hi
I downloaded Ubuntu 10.04 Alternate CD and tried to upgrade 8.04 to 10.04.
When I run upgrade (with the option "Include latest updates from the Internet?" set to "No" ) in the "Setting new software channels" it gives this error (ScreenShot attached):
Code:
An unresolvable problem occurred while calculating the upgrade:
E:Error, pkgProblemResolver::Resolve generated breaks, this may be caused by held packages.

 This can be caused by:
 * Upgrading to a pre-release version of Ubuntu
 * Running the current pre-release version of Ubuntu
 * Unofficial software packages not provided by Ubuntu

If none of this applies, then please report this bug against the 'update-manager' package and include the files in /var/log/dist-upgrade/ in the bug report.
What's on?
I think the 3rd reason causes the problem
I installed lots of packages from non-Ubuntu repositories.
What should I do?

Thanks

I installed lots of packages from non-Ubuntu repositories.
Then the "upgrade" isn't going to work for you.

Most people recommend a clean install, rather than "upgrade", and then moving your personal files over.

I usually do the clean install to a new partition, so I can get it all configured before I attempt to migrate my personal files. When I am happy, I delete the old distro.
