Updating netbeans from 6.8 to 7.x

I just finishing installing netbeans on my computer. I used Synaptic package manager and it installed 6.8 which is not the latest version JavaFX says that it needs 7.1 in order to use JavaFX. I have downloaded Netbeans 7.2 and the latest Oracle Java SDK. When I double-click on the .sh file a terminal window opens briefly but close almost imediately and it doesn't continue to install.
Thanx,
Paul
